Saturday afternoon the Twins will make the No. 3 pick in the MLB draft, with the opportunity to come away with one of three consensus high-end prospects in an otherwise ordinary class: UCLA shortstop Roch Cholowsky, Georgia Tech catcher Vahn Lackey, and Texas high-school shortstop Grady Emerson.
Whether the Twins simply take the one player from the trio still on the board, or things veer off script as so often happens in baseball's draft, it'll be their highest selection since 2017, when they held the No. 1 pick and chose Royce Lewis to kick off the organization's Derek Falvey era.
Given that context, as well as the fact Falvey "mutually agreed to part ways" with the Twins in January after nine seasons as front-office boss, I thought this would be a worthwhile time to review their first-round picks under his leadership from 2017 through his final draft last summer.
